iPB Printing has developed a multi-layer in-mould label, where the printed layer (ink) is separated from the layer with the blank plastic during the recycling process. We call this concept RECYPEEL.
Both layers of the RECYPEEL in-mould label are made from different types of plastic, allowing both layers to be separated and processed based on their specific weight (after splitting).
The 'pure' plastic (without printing) can be reused as 'blank' plastic in the production of new plastic products. The complete packages with RECYPEEL IML are shredded during the recycling process, at which point the printed layer (ink) separates.
In addition to using two different types of plastic, we apply a specially developed 'release' technique to enable the separation of the layers.
The ink adheres to the top layer of the packaging, and the top layer, including ink, is removed from the remaining packaging during the recycling process.
In a traditional IML packaging, the adhesion of the different layers and ink is very strong, which prevents separation. Moreover, the type of plastic is usually the same (PP/PP or PET/PET).
